About Us

We can take care of the logistics..

Cabletanker AS also offers client packages, included the whole logistics stage of each contract agreement, where we can arrange towing/transportation to the final destination.
Barges are available for hire/charter, time charter or bareboat charter.

There may be other options available upon request.

A cable tanker is a floating vessel equipped with one or several cylinder tanks that floats and rotates inside the vessels hull. The volume of fluid needed for this flotation is minimum. The load carrying cylinder has a deck located in between top and bottom. The pressure set up to make the load float is set up by the water in the annulus between the fixed and the rotating cylinder.

Typical outside dimensions and load capacities are:

  • 14.5 x 29 x 6 m and load capacity 2×750 tonnes
  • 25 x 25 x 6 m and load capacity 2500 tonnes
  • 30 x 40 x 7 m and load capacity over 5000 tonnes
  • 35 x 40 x 7 m and load capacity about 7500 tonnes
  • NEW! 2015 land based 500-ton Cabletanker in aluminium.

Other solutions can also be done, please contact us.

Advantages with Cabletanker’s

Compared with traditional equipment for storage of cables the most important advantage with a cable tanker is reliability.

Next to this the mobility at sea both locally at the manufacturer and for transport of cable over long distances. Cost of maintenance is expected to be low. The lifetime for use is high. The market sales value of a used cable tanker is higher and there is an alternative to convert it for another purpose as a barge.

The mobility of the cable tanker may reduce the need to transfer the cable from one unit of storage to another. With a cable tanker the cable manufacturer can make permanent transport lines in and out of the machines for manufacturing. The quality of these transport lines will then be high and safety for operators and cables improved.

With the cable completed the cable tanker may be relocated to a place with special facilities for making terminations and the same goes for testing.

A cable tanker can be made in sizes that fit the needs of the users. Plans will be made for cable tankers down to 10 x 10 meter. Smaller sizes will make the cable tanker an alternative for road transport. With the cable strapped don to the load deck the cable tanker can be tilted upright during transport.

An alternative to an all new cable tanker is to convert an existing barge or other vessel with relatively small modifications when compared to the cost related to turntables supports on wheels.

Power needed to operate the cable tanker is lower.

Cable tankers have a very low noise emission in use. This depends on type of motors used. Both electric and hydraulic drives can be used.

Cable tankers do not occupy land area and land rent is rather a fee for mooring.

Disadvantages with Cabletanker’s

When compared with competing onshore turntables the investment in a cable tanker may be higher. This depends on size and local conditions in the construction area. Being a floating unit a cost of hire of landing place may be required.
Construction time for a cable tanker may be longer than for an onshore turntable.
